Choosing to become a Conscientious Objector is a difficult choice, but one that we encourage our youth to think about and seek guidance on. During the Anabaptist Reformation beginning in 1525, Mennonites chose peace as a way of life and as a call to obedience to Christ. Many early Anabaptists were persecuted and killed for this belief in the way
of peace. However, the early church, from the time of Christ to the 300s AD, was a peace church. Anabaptists view the early church and the teachings of Christ to exemplify the way of peace. Today, the churches that we call Mennonites, the Church of the Brethren, and Quakers are the "historical peace churches."
